Curious and open, I strive, whatever the subject, to give a dynamic, look for movement, a frame, to freeze time. My subjects and my commissions send me to cover and discover people, stories on my street corner as well as at the other end of the world.
I push open doors, meet people who I would never have access to. It’s pretty magical for me to see how photography authorizes me to enter into people’s lives and to see what’s going on. For example, when I went into the Polish mountains to meet the “Juhasi”, these farmers, like 50 years ago, living from their cheese making. My camera lets people open up and, for the time of my presence, share their intimate facets, tragic or funny, of their reality.
I like portraits. I have little by little learned to appreciate this practice, which intimidated me at first. I like finding myself in front of the other person and begin to resonate with the moment, a short moment where, for me, nothing else exists. I am here, fixed, tense in the moment where everything becomes abstract, everything is intense concentration.
